Sam knows Deanna has never managed to remain conscious through a single lecture on symbolism, literary or otherwise, and the Lifesavers wrappers are nothing more than coincidence that solidified into habit, but Sam would really like it if Deanna came up with a new disposal method. But that's not something you can bring up with your sister.

Sassy Jimmy Novak, and the angel Castiel.

Was sitting around with artfriends and decided I had to do ANYTHING but keep working on freelance stuff (which is where I've been), and one of them said "draw Jimmy/Castiel"

I don't think this is what she meant

but this is what happened.

Jimmy Novak is one of my fave supernatural characters, oh yeah novaks.

I get a biiiiit research-crazy when I write fanfiction for any fandom, and SPN was no exception. So I went on an (ongoing) angel research junket the likes of which no school paper of mine has ever seen. Angelic lore is just so INTERESTING; in the old texts they don't even always have wings (though some cherubs do - wings and bodies of lions or oxen, faces like men, breathing fire. Cherubim are freaky). They're pillars of fire with a thousand eyes; rolling wheels and lightening. So the way I draw Cas's true form is inspired by that (at least he's not a cherub thank fuck). That's really the base of his, er, fiery pillar.

Sassy Jimmy Novak flipping the bird is the best Jimmy Novak. I think my fav Jimmy is in But The Glass Was Perfect, in case you felt the need for a giant angel rant and a fic rec. XD

Hehehe, angel rants suit me fine. I tend to go with the straight up Ezekiel-Bible description of Cherubim as beings of fire with four faces (and one of them's a lion, I was so proud of Zachariah when he said that) but things filled with eyes are always amazing. What other sources were useful for you?

I'll see how I go with the fic rec since I'm apathetic about actually reading fanfic, but it's not because I'm especially against it in general. I did feel pretty weird first submitting my Lightborn entry though since I've never used that dA category before. (Le Gasp).

I love it when they get a little into the angel lore - like Zachariah's lion face! There are so many different ideas over thousands of years as to what angels look like; after a while you just gotta go with one.

My favorite source (have I mentioned this one??) is the book Angels: An Endangered Species. A Dictionary of Angels has also proved pretty helpful.

Haha, no pressure with the fic rec. And I'm probably an idiot for needing to ask, but what is Lightborn exactly?
